SLS Concludes the 21st GA with Abundant Grace

News

The 21st SLS General Assembly concluded with an overflow of God’s grace on September 17th. This year, the GA was held onsite for the first time in a few years since the pandemic began. This time, the GA was conducted by each region in a hybrid format, combining both online and in-person participation.

This year’s conference brought together delegates from different continents, combining both online and offline sessions. The theme for the 2023 GA was based on 2 Corinthians 4:5, which states, “For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants.”

The conference began on the 16th with an opening service. Pastor Simon from China delivered a sermon titled “Christ will be exalted in my body” based on Philippians 1:20-21. Following that, President Dr. Joseph Lee gave a special lecture on the identity of the SLS. He discussed what SLS believes in terms of Faith and Order, and Vision, also defining leaders. Later, there was a time of prayer uniting hearts of participants.

Subsequently, there was a discussion session between Korea and China, in which leaders from Korea and China first introduced themselves to one another. During the discussion, it was decided that they will continue regular visits that had been interrupted due to COVID-19. The Chinese delegates expressed a desire for faith counseling based on Korea’s long-standing experience, insights into establishing hospitals, and guidance in faith leadership. Korea, in turn, expressed a desire to collaborate with China in providing opportunities for the spiritual growth of newly evangelized individuals

On the morning of the 17th, regional mission reports were presented, with leaders from each continent sharing mission updates and future plans. Representative Dr. Shin presented on Asia Pacific, Dr. Peter Obaleye on Africa, Dr. Shunwen Zheng on China, and Dr. Daniela Ortiz on Latin America.

The General Assembly concluded with a closing service, where Representative Dr. Joseph Lee delivered a sermon based on 2 Corinthians 4:5 and 2 Corinthians 4:10, titled “Making Christ the Lord and Ourselves Your Servants.” He emphasized the message that as SLS grows with many people coming, members should not forget the essence, which is to preach Jesus as Christ and to become a servant for others.

After concluding the GA, Representative Dr. Joseph Lee expressed his desire to joyfully host a grand Assembly next year with a target of achieving 1,000 members.
