During the dedication service, Pastor Simon Yao delivered a message titled “Carry on the Death of Jesus and Reveal the Life of Jesus,” based on 2 Corinthians 4:10. In his sermon, Pastor Simon outlined the vision of SLS China and the reasons for its establishment in Chengdu. He emphasized that SLS China seeks to find the lost sheep of Israel, comfort God’s people, and spread the Gospel among doctors and medical students, transforming them into disciples of Jesus Christ for the Kingdom of God.

Pastor Simon also expressed a desire to honor the legacy of Western missionaries and their sacrifices in laying the foundation for West China Union University, which is located close to the West China Center. He noted that SLS China humbly begins its mission by building on this foundation of Christianity.

The newly dedicated mission center is expected to serve as a place of spiritual nourishment and training for many medical students, fostering their growth in faith and their commitment to spreading the Gospel.

On May 5th, Saint Luke Society (SLS) conference took place between Korea and China in Shanghai, China. This was the first such meeting in eight years for Korean members to visit China. The regular conferences between Korea and China had been temporarily suspended after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the easing of pandemic restrictions, this meeting was able to take place once again.

The meeting was held in a conference room on the morning of May 5th. The sermon for the Sunday service was delivered by Dr. Shin Myung-Seop, the representative of SLS Korea. Dr. Shin emphasized the need for SLS to proclaim the gospel again in this era where the gospel is distorted, to inherit the history of the first emergence of the medical mission society in China, to revive Christianity, and to become true brides of Christ.

Following the sermon, there were vision presentations from SLS Korea and China. Dr. Shunwen Zheng, the representative of SLS China, stated that both old and new members were present at the meeting, so he focused on presenting the history of SLS China. He organized and presented the activities of SLS from its founding in China until now. Dr. Shin Myung-Seop not only presented the history of SLS but also spoke about how the ministry has developed, as well as presenting future mission strategies and visions.

Next, there was a time for testimonials, in which several members from Korea and China shared their faith journeys and how the Lord has worked in their lives as His vessels in revealing the gospel. Following the testimonials, there was a prayer session where members united their hearts and offered sincere prayers for the development of missions and hospitals in Korea and China and for their continual collaboration in medical missions in the Asia Pacific region.

SLS members then proceeded with sightseeing in Shanghai and Nanjing for the next couple of days and enjoyed pleasant fellowship, strengthening their bond.

This is the first seminar organized by the seminar committee and it was an attempt to access the strength and growth of the department. The theme of the conference was ‘Living a purpose-filled life as a healthcare worker’ 

The aim of the conference was to teach Healthcare workers, how to live a life that is purpose-driven and a life that is pleasing unto the Lord. The conference started at noon with the attendance of 31 participants. It commenced with an hour lecture from Dr. Joseph Lee (President of SLS) followed by an interactive session. 

The additional panelist for the interactive session was Dr. Corban Okoli of SLS UK and another guest; Dr. Pamella Ekiyor from the UK. Dr. Christopher of SLS Africa was the host of the seminar. The seminar facilitated the active participation of the members, as the people asked questions concerning real events and were engaging with the panelists.

In conclusion, the conference was able to highlight the need for all Christian healthcare workers to identify their unique role in preaching the Gospel of Christ and becoming a source of light in this dark world. The emphasis on the vertical relationship with God as pertaining to heavenly calling and the horizontal relationship with man as pertaining to community impact and career was clearly elaborated to all participants. The conference ended after two hours of the intense and exciting session. SLS Africa will continue to provide quality seminars as such that will help healthcare workers to grow spiritually and to excel in their medical field.

On May 4th, 2022, the medical team of Saint Luke Society Latin America arrived in La Guajira, Colombia to conduct a 4-day medical mission in collaboration with NGO Jubilee Foundation Canada and Mission Life Colombia.

Through the collaborative project, a total of 500 children in the poorest region of the Caribbean coast of northern Colombia received medical attention and treatments. SLS medical team consisting of three doctors, two nurses, and a dentist served the children in the five communities of the Wayuu tribe.

SLS team of medical professionals shared that they could reaffirm their calling from God while conducting the medical mission as they saw many who are in need of medical care and the Gospel. To reach out to many more healthcare providers and invite them to the work of the Lord, SLS is currently working on a documentary video that shows the footage of the medical mission. SLS gives thanks to the Lord for the successful medical mission and looks forward to expanding its mission.

The event was promoted using the personal network of the current SLS members in Nigeria and Kenya, as well as on Instagram. Following the active promotion, over 100 participants including medical students and doctors joined the webinar from countries like Nigeria, the U.K, South Africa, Swiss, Ukraine, and Hungary.

The speakers for the webinar include Dr. Oduniyi Olufemi from Nigeria, Dr. Ellen Song from the U.S, and Dr. Joseph Lee from Korea. Each gave a lecture on the theme of the increased prevalence of hypertension, a complication of hypertension, and the conflict between faith and medicine respectively. The participants were very engaged by asking many questions at the end of each lecture and thanked the organizer for the opportunity.

The staff of SLS Africa who organized the webinar testified that it was a great success and miracle having considered that the average participation rate for such events in Africa is very low. To contain those who joined, SLS will send them follow-up emails, which include the certificate of attendance, SLS ministry book, and invitation to join the ministry. SLS Africa saw hope and great potential for mass evangelism and will continue to host such events. SLS Africa is requesting prayer for the mission revival and its development.

In this collaboration, SLS Latin America led the medical mission and provided the residents of the Island with the medical services and supplies that they needed. For this mission, medical professionals, including neurologists, dentists, general practitioners, and nurses were recruited as volunteers and around 300 local residents received medical care in this small community of Paco Island.

Members of SLS Latin America and volunteers sacrificially served them with the love of Christ, which the residents later testified that the medical mission was the answer to their prayer. The community and the authority members thanked the team of SLS Latin America and invited them for future medical missions.

Saint Luke Society Latin America will endeavor to deliver the love of Christ and be a contributor in leaving a positive impact on the local community and society so that the gospel can reach many who are in need.

Some time ago God called Abigail to learn more about the Bible through a group in which missionary of the Emanuel Church from Colombia is administrating.
Pastor Manuel had the opportunity to study the Word fervently with her and she showed a beautiful heart and overflowing love for others, shares Pastor Manuel. She already studied 6 bible studies of the book of Romans during the meeting. Abigail’s father was present at the meeting to help with her mild hearing impairment.

Abi shared that it is a great blessing to have found a ministry like SLS, a place where members unite in service to the Lord and to work for His Kingdom in the health sector. The Meeting was filled with Grace and joy. SLS Latin America shared, “We feel very blessed to welcome Abigail and we want to reach out to more people like her to open a chapter in Chile and Latin America.

SLS has been organizing Medical Dreamer every year and this is the 3rd one, which took place online. Many students from across the country who are dreaming to become medical personnel applied for the program. Prior to the first lecture, students received a program orientation video and brochure explaining the participation rules and instructions. Also, they received a link to where they can submit their reflection afterwards.

On this day, Dr. Joseph Lee, Dr. So Young Jung, and Dr. Jiye Kim delivered a lecture on the below topics respectively, various medical career paths, conviction on the vision, and study skills and each lecture lasted for 30 minutes. After the lecture, there was a time of taking a group photo and students were guided to write their reflection.

Most of the participants submitted their lengthy reflections. Among those who wrote impressive ones will be asked to record a video and be used for making a promotional video later.

Director Park shared in the seminar how to bring a biblical approach when dealing with the above matters and answers to inquiries submitted by the participants. She also shared that a happy family can be established when a husband loves his wife and a wife obeys her husband. Also, they both need to dwell in God’s love.  A Husband needs to acknowledge his weakness and inability to fully love his wife, therefore, he should first meet God who loves him as he is. A wife also should acknowledge her inability to obey and seek God’s help.

She then added, “When we hold onto the mercy and forgiving love of God, only then do we gain strength to take care of our spouse and children.”
After the seminar, one of the participants shared, “I could feel the lecturer’s hands-on rich experiences of counseling and I liked the contents of the seminar which gave solutions to marital issues and I was able to reflect myself upon. I’m thankful for the beneficial seminar.”

SLMG has been launched with a business plan to research and manufacture food and pharmaceuticals. Currently, the business has been incorporated and the transfer of the patent on dysuria is in process. The next goal is to register the business as a venture company.

The C.E.O of the SLMG BIO Dr. Soyoung Jung shared, “When I used to work at Inae Korean Medicine Clinic, I wanted to bring both biblical and scientific elements into the oriental medicine. For that purpose, I performed clinical trials in parallel with writing a thesis on that subject and prepared for a patent. Such research played a huge role in laying a foundation for the SLMG BIO Corporation. Oriental medicine has many limitations but I saw how it can be of benefit and resourceful for developing new medicine. God gave me a dream for developing new medicine and a pharmaceutical company and I’m grateful that we can start this Bio company. It is like a small seed now but I believe that God will fulfill that dream. Also, thinking about how God will perform great work through this company, my heart is trembling with great expectation.”

A pharmaceutical company is an indispensable institute for the SLS mission. SLS is praying for its development.
