The 23rd General Assembly of Saint Luke Society (SLS) officially opened on Sunday, September 21, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This was the first time an international gathering was held in the Southeast Asia region, marking an important step in the expansion of SLS’s ministry and the exploration of new possibilities. Representatives, general secretaries, and leaders from Asia Pacific, China, Southeast Asia, and Latin America gathered to share in God’s grace.
The opening service began with praise led by leaders from Myanmar, followed by a sermon delivered by Dr. Myung Seop Shin, Representative of SLS Korea, based on Matthew 11. Under the theme “The Works of Christ,” he emphasized that Jesus’s ministry focused not on power, but on teaching, proclaiming, and healing. He reminded the assembly that the very identity of SLS is to continue Christ’s threefold ministry.
Following this, SLS Representative Dr. Joseph Lee delivered a special lecture presenting the vision and goals of SLS leading up to 2027. He reaffirmed the core of faith rooted in the cross and resurrection, highlighting the vision of SLS: “The restoration of humanity through healing and the establishment of God’s Kingdom through the gospel.”
In the second part of the assembly, representatives from Korea, China, Latin America, and Myanmar gave regional reports. They shared the fruits and progress of mission work, encouraging one another. In particular, the Southeast Asia region reported remarkable growth, with 12 leaders dedicating themselves to Bible study and mission—a testimony that deeply inspired all participants.
The assembly concluded with a closing service on Ephesians 1:17–23. In a message titled “The Hope of His Calling and the Riches of His Glorious Inheritance,” Representative Joseph Lee urged leaders to grow in deeper knowledge of God, holding firmly to the hope of His calling and the power of His resurrection in their ministries. This was followed by a united prayer led by Secretary General Kyunghwan Na of SLS Korea, as participants interceded for the fulfillment of the SLS vision and the expansion of God’s Kingdom.
The 23rd General Assembly was a time to reaffirm the mission and identity of SLS and to proclaim a shared vision for 2027. All participants were greatly strengthened through grace and challenge, and the assembly came to a blessed close under the guidance of God.
