SLS China Holds “Comfort My People” Summer Medical Ministry in Xi’An

On August 9, 2025, SLS China held a medical ministry themed “Comfort My People” in the ancient city of Xi’An. This event was the third session of SLS China’s annual large-scale summer medical ministry. Eleven members from SLS China participated, providing local memebers with health lectures, first aid training, and free medical consultations.

The day began with an opening service, where Ms.Wang Haiying from SLS China’s Education Department preached on “Comfort My People,” citing Isaiah 40:1. She shared that the people of Israel had strayed from God and lived sinful lives without Him, yet God does not stand idly by – He disciplines those He loves. “He breaks, yet He binds up; He strikes, yet His hands heal.” God’s plans for us are for peace and not disaster. Just as the prophet Isaiah foretold, God Himself will save and comfort His chosen people.

Following the service, the first lecture, “Cancer Prevention and Treatment – The Example of Colorectal Cancer,” was delivered by Dr. Liu Yue covering seven aspects: what cancer is, how it develops, risk factors, why people fear cancer, early detection, prevention, and treatment. He emphasized early detection and treatment, correct cancer screening methods (e.g., chest CT instead of X-ray for lung cancer), and lifestyle/dietary adjustments for prevention. He also highlighted rational views toward chemotherapy, encouraging patients to seize the optimal treatment window.

The second lecture, “Tongue Diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine,” was given by Dr. Wu Zhanyou, who explained the normal tongue appearance, diagnostic considerations, and common tongue features of different constitutions. He advised avoiding colored foods before examination.

Next was first aid training. Brother Zhao En and Sister Wang Ying demonstrated CPR techniques via video and live demonstration, covering differences for adults, children, and infants, along with AED usage. They stressed the C(Compression), A(Airway), B(Breathing) sequence for adults and ABC for children/infants, the importance of minimizing interruptions, and correct compression-breath ratios. Participants practiced on-site and received corrections.

Sisters Liu Chen and Zhang Daohui then explained the Heimlich maneuver using a choking simulation vest, demonstrating both adult and infant methods, followed by audience participation.

In the afternoon, six doctors provided free consultations to attendees.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic was set up inside the sanctuary, with three doctors: Dr. Wu Zhanyou, head of SLS China’s Shenzhen TCM Clinic with many years of clinical experience; Dr. Li Qian from Tianjin, specializing in psychosomatic disorders; and Dr. Luo Yangliu from Xi’An, a friend of Dr. Li, whose participation brought new strength to the team. They diagnosed patients using the “look, listen, ask, and feel” approach and prescribed treatments.

The Western medicine clinic also had three doctors: Dr. Zheng Shunwen (Cardiology), Dr. Zhou Yanping (Nephrology), and Dr. Liu Yue (General Surgery). Patients brought physical examination reports for interpretation, consulted on heart-related symptoms, and followed up on the morning’s cancer prevention talk. All questions were answered in detail.

Since launching the “Comfort My People” summer ministry, SLS China has served in Kunming, Haikou, and now Xi’an, bringing health knowledge and healing to members nationwide. May God continue to guide and use SLS China to bring healing to His people.
