On July 16, 2025, Saint Luke Society (SLS) members Angela Espitia, Raquel Magalhães, and Juan Cruz de Castaño conducted a training session for the missionaries of Emanuel Church in Medellín, Colombia. The focus was on physical health and the responsible use of medications-an essential topic for those serving in the mission field.
Angela and Raquel shared key insights on healthy habits, emphasizing the importance of balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate rest. They explained how the absence of such habits can negatively affect overall well-being, daily energy, and effectiveness in ministry. Participants were encouraged to reduce their intake of processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats, and instead embrace a diet that is natural and mindful. They also highlighted rest and hydration as vital pillars for maintaining a healthy body in service to God.
In the second part of the session, Juan addressed the responsible use of medications. He explained how medications function in the body and discussed the dangers of self-medication. He stressed the importance of consulting healthcare professionals and not underestimating the potential adverse effects of improper drug use.
Emanuel Church in Medellín received the training with deep gratitude, describing it as a blessing for their missionary work. They expressed hope that such sessions could be extended to other cities, recognizing the positive impact that physical well-being can have on both spiritual and ministerial life. They were reminded that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and must be cared for accordingly.
SLS remains committed to equipping missionaries with essential health education and care. We pray that the Lord will continue to strengthen each one—body, mind, and spirit—and that these teachings will bear lasting fruit in their daily lives. May more churches across various cities receive this life-enriching training, empowering them to serve with renewed passion, wisdom, and faithfulness.
