SLS Latin America Launches 40-Day Devotional “The Path of the Cross”

On Monday, March 10, 2025, Saint Luke Society (SLS) Latin America launched “The Path of the Cross,” a 40-day devotional designed to spiritually prepare students for Easter. This initiative has provided a space for deep reflection, allowing participants to strengthen their faith through daily study of the Word of God.

This devotional, delivered in Spanish and Portuguese, aims to equip students with spiritual tools to deepen their relationship with God and apply biblical teachings in their daily lives. Participants include both newcomers and experienced believers, creating a diverse and enriching environment where they can meditate on Scripture, share reflections and testimonies, and grow in their commitment to God and the Christian community.

The program was organized through WhatsApp groups, where students received daily devotional materials and encouragement to remain engaged throughout the 40 days. The devotional’s first reflection was based on John 13:1, which emphasizes Jesus’ unwavering love for His disciples, even in the face of His imminent suffering.

Brother Gabriel from Brazil shared his thoughts:

“This class made me realize how superficial my first reading was and motivated me to reread the passage more deeply. The most important lesson I learned was the true meaning of being a Christian: to imitate Christ as much as possible. The act of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet stood out to me, showing that true service must come from genuine love. I also understood the deeper meaning—Jesus cleansing the sins of His disciples and teaching them to do the same for others.”

Similarly, Brother Joe from the Dominican Republic reflected:

“This class encouraged me to learn and understand the sacrificial love of Christ. None of us like to suffer, but through Jesus’ sacrifice, we understand that this path is motivated by love. The verse we studied shows Jesus’ unwavering love: even as His suffering approached, He remained focused on loving and serving His disciples. This teaches us that true love is constant, sacrificial, and limitless. Just as Jesus loved to the end, we too are called to love with devotion and faithfulness.”

SLS Latin America full-time leaders, including Dr. Thamara Duran, General Secretary of SLS Latin, along with Nayeli Vargas and Jocelyn Rodriguez, played key roles in planning and organizing this initiative. They coordinated efforts to ensure students were equipped with the necessary resources and guidance throughout this spiritual journey.

As “The Path of the Cross” continues, the impact of this devotional is becoming evident in the lives of many participants, who testify to the transformation in their faith and relationship with God. Some have gained greater clarity in their spiritual journey, while others have found comfort and strength in the midst of personal struggles.

The SLS Latin America community invites everyone to pray for the participants of this devotional, asking that God grants them wisdom, perseverance, and grace during this Lent period of spiritual growth. May each day of this devotional be an opportunity for believers to draw closer to God and walk in faith along the path of the cross.
