The medical volunteer organization Healing Hands participated in the “Figure Festival with Seoul Children’s Hospital and Comedian Lee Sang-hoon,” held around Seoul Metropolitan Children’s Hospital on May 3, sharing warmth and support with children.

The event was organized as part of the annual charitable activities carried out by comedian Lee Sang-hoon, who serves as an ambassador for Healing Hands, to support children each year. Healing Hands joined the meaningful event to further contribute to its spirit of giving.

During the event, Healing Hands operated a flea market featuring bracelets handmade by university student volunteers, figures, and various other items. In particular, the handcrafted bracelets carried heartfelt wishes for the children and drew the attention of many visitors at the venue. All proceeds from sales at the Healing Hands booth were donated in full to the children’s hospital.

In addition, around 60 sellers participated in the festival, selling their own items and joining the spirit of sharing by donating part of their proceeds. Small acts of kindness and sincerity came together to create an even greater sense of warmth.

The donations collected through the event were delivered to Seoul Metropolitan Children’s Hospital, representing not only the results of sales but also the value of collective generosity created by everyone involved.

The event also welcomed a variety of visitors, including several celebrities, adding to the warm and lively atmosphere. Some broadcasting footage was also filmed, capturing touching moments from the event.

A representative from Healing Hands stated, “We participated with the hope of bringing even a small amount of joy and hope to the children,” adding, “We will continue to extend our hands to places where warm support and sharing are needed.”

Meanwhile, Healing Hands continues to share love and support with neighbors in need through medical volunteer work and various charitable activities both in Korea and abroad.

The Saint Luke Society (SLS) in Latin America recently concluded its regional Way of the Cross devotional, a spiritual initiative held throughout March and April for young people and students in the health sciences. The program left a lasting impression on participants, fostering meaningful reflection and spiritual growth across the region.

The devotional was promoted through digital posters and the “40-Day Challenge” WhatsApp group, which served as a dynamic space for communication, encouragement, and mutual support. This platform helped sustain engagement and build a sense of community among participants from various Latin American countries, all united by a shared commitment to deepen their faith.

Designed to accompany students in their spiritual journey, the devotional invited participants to reflect daily on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the call to follow Him in every aspect of life. Each day included a selected Bible passage, a contextualized teaching, and a prompt for personal reflection. The content emphasized the person of Jesus—His obedience to the Father, His unconditional love, and His self-sacrifice for humanity.

In its final phase, participants meditated on John 19, a pivotal chapter recounting Jesus’ final moments before His crucifixion. This reflection highlighted Christ’s enduring love, service, and forgiveness even in the face of profound suffering, offering a powerful model for participants’ own lives and vocations.

A distinctive feature of the initiative was its bilingual format. Teachings were provided in both Spanish and Portuguese, enabling active participation from students across the region, including Brazil. This approach strengthened inclusivity and reinforced a sense of spiritual unity and shared purpose among diverse communities.

Conclusion
The Way of the Cross devotional stands as a testament to SLS Latin America’s commitment to nurturing the spiritual lives of students in the health sciences. By integrating faith, reflection, and community, the initiative not only deepened participants’ relationship with Christ but also encouraged them to embody His compassion and service in their future professional practice. As the program concludes, its impact continues to resonate, inspiring a new generation to live out their faith with purpose and dedication.

The Healing Hands, a medical volunteer club under the Saint Luke Society, held its 6th new member orientation on April 4 at the City Hall annex. The Saint Luke Society is a Christian medical mission organization affiliated with the Communion of Churches in Korea (CCIK) and the Evangelical Medical Association of Korea (EMAK), and since 2002, it has been consistently engaged in gospel outreach, missions, and medical service.

On this day, Dr. Myungseop Shin emphasized to the new students that cultivating a spirit of service during one’s school years enriches life and gives it deeper meaning, and he shared the founding vision of Healing Hands. This was followed by Dr. Jiye Kim, who explained the history of the Saint Luke Society and Healing Hands.

Since beginning medical outreach in 2006, the Saint Luke Society has received recognition for its contributions, including awards from the Seongdong District Office, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. It has also received a plaque of appreciation from the CCIK. Furthermore, it has established cooperative partnerships through MOUs with various organizations, including churches within the Presbyterian denomination, Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary, Campus Evangelical Incubating, the Mongolian Evangelical Alliance, and the Evangelical Fellowship of India.

Healing Hands began in 2018, and a nationwide network of university clubs was formed in 2021. On this day, Team Leader Choongshin Jung introduced new members to the various activities of Healing Hands, including overseas and domestic medical missions, as well as reading clubs and seminars.

Additionally, comedian Lee Sang-hoon was appointed as a promotional ambassador for Healing Hands. He also delivered a “Youth Lecture,” sharing a message of hope with the students.

Healing Hands plans to continue various volunteer activities this year, and in August, it is scheduled to carry out a medical mission in Mongolia in partnership with the Mongolian Evangelical Alliance.

The Leadership Training concluded with abundant grace. The event took place at the All Nations Center on Jeju Island during the weekend of March 14-15. A total of 22 leaders from Korea and China participated in the training, including four new members. Among them was a newly committed member who serves as a cardiologist in Beijing.

Saint Luke Society headquarters organized and launched this first training with the goal of strengthening unity and fellowship among leaders from the two nations. Most importantly, the training aimed to further raise relatively young leaders-especially in China-so that they may lead the mission and bring revival.

The training began on March 14 with four profound lectures delivered by Pastor Sophia Hong, exploring the themes of the cross, resurrection, and the Kingdom of God. Participants received abundant grace as they deepened their understanding of the cross and the love of Christ.

Following the lectures, the teams from Korea and China presented their quarterly mission reports, sharing their strategies and plans for the coming months while highlighting key achievements.

After the mission reports, a prayer meeting continued with specific prayer topics shared by each region. Participants united their hearts in earnest prayer before the Lord. In addition, the first day concluded with heartfelt testimonies shared by three young leaders who were visiting Korea for the first time.

The second day began with Sunday service at ANC. Afterward, participants toured Jeju Island, including a visit to Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), a UNESCO-listed volcanic crater famous for its spectacular sunrise views over the ocean.

The leadership training concluded with great grace and joy in Christ. Participants expressed deep gratitude for the love and service they had received and shared their desire to attend the second training scheduled for July this year.

SLS gives thanks and glory to the Lord for His presence and love revealed during the training, and prays that the leaders will continue to excel in their ministry while remembering the grace they received.

Dr. Kim Soo-jung of Saint Luke Society was appointed on February 23 as a Steering Committee Member of the Korea Christian Life Ethics Association (KCLEA). Since its founding in 2001, the Association has brought together pastors, legal professionals, medical practitioners, and others from diverse fields to advocate for the protection of life (pro-life) based on Christian faith.

After completing a master’s degree in Christian bioethics, Dr. Kim had been actively engaged in academic work related to life ethics when she was invited by KCLEA to join and support its mission.

At present, much of the Korean Christian medical community appears to align with more progressive perspectives, often giving limited emphasis to life ethics. KCLEA, known for its conservative stance, has faced challenges in maintaining active engagement due to the aging of its members. With the appointment of capable leaders such as Dr. Kim, the Association is expected to gain renewed strength and momentum.

Dr. Kim’s appointment is also anticipated to strengthen SLS’s collaboration with external evangelical Christian organizations. Looking ahead, SLS envisions taking a leading role in the life ethics movement.

Dr. Kim stated, “Following the heart of Jesus, who valued the life of one possessed man more than the worth of two thousand pigs, I hope to be used faithfully as a successor, a co-worker, and one who passes on this precious ministry of protecting life to the next generation.”

The 9th Healing Hands Medical Mission organized by the Saint Luke Society was successfully completed in the Philippines from January 17 to 19, under God’s abundant grace. Saint Luke Society is a Christian medical mission organization affiliated with the Communion of Churches in Korea and the Evangelical Medical Association of Korea. It collaborates with various denominations, including the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap and Hapdong), and actively engages in international ministry through MOUs with organizations such as the Mongolian Christian Medical Association and the Evangelical Fellowship of India. Since its launch in 2018, the Healing Hands Medical Mission has been carried out consistently, taking the lead in sharing the Gospel. Currently, approximately 1,000 members are actively serving through the Healing Hands ministry.

This medical mission was conducted in Pandi, Bulacan, a densely populated urban poor community in the Philippines. A total of 33 volunteers from Korea, along with many local Filipino volunteers, participated in the mission. The Pandi area is recognized by the United Nations as one of the representative impoverished regions in the world, where access to medical care is urgently needed. On January 17, the mission officially opened with an opening ceremony held at Barangay Cacarong Bata. The ceremony began with an opening prayer by Pastor Lee Sung-Kwang of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap), who was dispatched from Korea. This was followed by congratulatory remarks from the Vice Mayor of Pandi City and Mr. Mercado Estrella, representative of Barangay Cacarong Bata. Dr. Shin Myung-Seop, Representative of Saint Luke Society Korea, greeted the residents by saying that the team had come with the love of Jesus Christ and that all the residents were their brothers and sisters. The ceremony concluded with the signing of an MOU between Saint Luke Society Healing Hands and Barangay Cacarong Bata.

The medical mission was carried out through multiple departments, including dentistry, traditional Korean medicine, internal medicine, and pharmacy. Over the course of January 16 and 17, free medical care was provided to approximately 500 local residents, through which the love of Jesus Christ was shared. Many residents suffered from poor dental health, chronic illnesses such as hypertension, acute conditions including colds and allergies, and various skin diseases. Musculoskeletal disorders were also common due to financial hardship. As a result, whenever medical mission teams visit, large numbers of residents seek treatment. Because routine medical care is rare, disease prevention is extremely difficult. A local official shared that some individuals develop cancer in their twenties and pass away without ever knowing the cause of death. Therefore, even basic health checkups and health education provided through medical missions can make a significant impact. Additionally, many residents struggle with severe nutritional imbalance, as they often cannot afford three meals a day and have very limited access to vegetables. In response, Saint Luke Society also provides vitamins to help improve nutritional deficiencies.

Although Pandi faces challenging living conditions, the area has been steadily developing through the dedication of various Christian organizations and local churches. Dr. Shin of SLS, stated, “We have been visiting Pandi, Bulacan for many years to conduct medical missions, and we are witnessing improvements in the residents’ health and their awareness of basic health knowledge.”

On January 19, the Healing Hands team conducted a health education session at Cacarong Bata Elementary School and provided fluoride treatments to students as part of a dental cavity prevention initiative. Dr. Shin explained, “Dental cavities are a very serious issue in this community. Frequent consumption of carbonated drinks due to poor dietary habits appears to be a major cause, so we provided education on proper eating habits. Fluoride application can prevent a significant number of cavities, which is why we administer fluoride treatments every time we visit the Philippines.” In addition, meals were provided to approximately 600 children from impoverished families. On average, children in this community eat only one meal a day and consume meat about once a month.

The Healing Hands team also partnered with Happy Church of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap) to visit households in the slum area. During these visits, vinyl flooring was installed over cement floors, homes were blessed, prayers were offered, and the Gospel was shared with families.

Korean participants who joined the medical mission shared reflections such as, “While living in Korea, the world often felt dark and overwhelming, but through this medical mission, I rediscovered hope and regained a sense of calling as a medical professional,” and “Some people criticized us, saying that medical missions cannot change the world, but through our participation, we clearly experienced that medical missions truly can bring change.”

Dr. Shin Myung-Seop, Representative of SLS Korea, concluded by saying, “Medical missions greatly benefit local residents and serve as an effective means of sharing the Gospel. At the same time, volunteers who participate often experience God’s love firsthand and see transformation in their own lives. Missions are part of the Great Commission given by Jesus and are an essential responsibility for Christians. Yet, we also witness that those who participate in missions receive great blessings as well. We believe it is the mission of Saint Luke Society to help more people take part in sharing God’s love through medical missions.”

By the grace of God, Saint Luke Society (SLS) networks across multiple regions held local Christmas Retreats, coming together to meditate on the true meaning of Christmas and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. SLS Korea, China, Myanmar, Brazil, Latin America, and the Dominican Republic each organized regional retreats, creating spaces for worship, fellowship, and deep reflection on Scripture.

Across all regions, participants gathered to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to study biblical passages centered on the incarnation, redemption, and God’s plan of salvation. Through teachings from the Gospels and Epistles, members reflected on why Christ came into the world, His humility and obedience, and the grace revealed through His life, death, and resurrection. These times of meditation encouraged participants to renew their faith, repent sincerely, and respond to God’s calling with obedience and gratitude.

The retreats also fostered meaningful fellowship, prayer, and unity among leaders, members, and youths. Through shared meals, discussions, and group activities, participants experienced Christian community and were strengthened to live out the gospel in their daily lives. Many testimonies highlighted renewed joy in salvation, a deeper understanding of God’s love, and a strengthened commitment to proclaim Christ beyond the Christmas season.

Through these local Christmas Retreats, God poured out abundant grace upon each SLS network, reminding all participants that Christmas is not only a celebration, but a calling—to live transformed lives centered on Christ and to share the good news with others.

SLS gives thanks to the Lord for His faithfulness and asks for continued prayer, that the grace received during these retreats may bear lasting fruit and that each network may continue to walk faithfully according to God’s will.

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.” (Luke 2:14)

On the 10th, a “Life Film Screening Event” hosted by SLS Healing Hands and sponsored by St. Luke Hospital and Evangelical Medical Association of Korea (EMAK) was held at the Seoul City Hall Seosomun Annex, and drew great success.

The screening was attended by 66 people in total – medical professionals, aspiring healthcare workers, and regular citizens interested in bio-ethical topics.

The film shown was Plan 75, which addresses issues of an aging society and euthanasia. The film opens with the line, “Too many old people are pressing the national finances, and the burden falls on the young. The elderly may no longer want to be a nuisance to society.” The director reportedly intended that the opening scene would represent the film’s entire reality.

Following the screening, a lively discussion took place. One participant said, “In the scene from the film I felt discrimination against the elderly, and I reflected on whether I myself had entertained such thoughts.” Another participant said, “The protagonist’s final farewell to the call-center worker, after choosing euthanasia in economic hardship, was so calm that I was moved to tears.” Participants raised the fundamental question: “Who, and on what basis, can grant the authority to end a person’s life?” They engaged in a deep debate on bio-ethics, including the psychological health of medical personnel involved in euthanasia processes.

Dr. Sujung Kim (MD, MSc in Bioethics) who led the discussion, said: “In life we do not only pass through healthy, active phases. Children, patients, the elderly-anyone can go through vulnerable times. It is my hope that our society becomes one that protects and cares for each other’s lives during those times.” She added, “I was surprised to find so many ordinary people interested in bio-ethics. I wish to spread broadly the will to save and care for life, which is God’s will.”

On October 17, 2025, the Saint Luke Society Brazil (SLS Brazil) held a Dedication Service in celebration of the inauguration and consecration of its first Mission Centre in Brazil. With worship, prayer and heartfelt recognition of God’s faithfulness, participants praised the Lord for guiding every step of the missionary work in the country.

The service was led by Dr Thamara Durán, General Secretary of Saint Luke Society Latin, and the opening prayer was offered by local leader Raquel Magalhães. Worship was led by Brazilian mission leader Rachel Fillipis, and intercessory prayer by local leader Thiago Silva. The sermon, delivered by Gabriel Acosta, was based on Isaiah 56:6-8 and carried the theme “A House of Prayer for All Peoples.”

Pastor Acosta delivered a profound and inspiring message, reminding the congregation that God’s presence is the highest treasure. He emphasized that while every profession serves a purpose, none can compare to the privilege of serving the Lord. He noted that God not only equips his people to care for physical needs, but also calls them to a deeper purpose — to nurture the inner life of people, which can only be restored through the Word and presence of God.

He further emphasized that the Mission Centre is to be a holy place where people can truly experience God’s presence and undergo spiritual transformation. Drawing from Matthew 21:12, he recalled when Jesus cleansed the temple and reminded the congregation that the true temple is the human heart — the place where God desires to dwell. With words full of wisdom, he reflected on Christ’s sacrifice, his resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit — God’s abiding presence with us today. He concluded by emphasising that the greatest aim of the Mission Centre is not simply Bible studies, but encounters with the Holy Spirit and genuine life-transformation.

The service concluded with participants, both in-person and online, singing a song of thanksgiving and dedicating the moment to God’s glory. Pastor Acosta offered the apostolic blessing, and everyone came together for a commemorative photo to mark the beginning of a new chapter for SLS Brazil. The in-person attendees then shared a time of koinonia, celebrating the special occasion together.

This service stood as a living expression of God’s mercy — the God who hears his people’s prayers and includes them in his redemptive work. SLS Brazil invites all to pray for this new Mission Centre: that many students and visitors might be reached by the Word of God. May the Lord raise up local leaders, filled with the Holy Spirit, who carry God’s presence wherever it is needed, so that lives may be transformed by the power of the Gospel.
